Retire, restore, or permanently delete an object type
Object types define the records your workspace uses, such as contacts, projects, tickets, or assets. Administrators can retire an object type without deleting its data or permanently delete it when the data is no longer required. ## Retire an object type Retiring is the safest way to remove an object type from everyday use. When you retire an object type: - It is hidden from normal workspace navigation. - Users can no longer create new records of that type through standard workflows. - Existing records and activity history are preserved. - Existing links and relationships continue to resolve. - An administrator can restore it later. To retire an object type: 1. Open **Admin**. 2. Select **Object types**. 3. Find the object type you want to remove. 4. Select **Retire**. 5. Review the number of records that will be preserved. 6. Select **Retire type**. The object type will appear in the **Retired object types** section. ## Restore a retired object type Restoring returns an object type to normal workspace use without losing its records or history. To restore it: 1. Open **Admin > Object types**. 2. Find the **Retired object types** section. 3. Locate the object type. 4. Select **Restore**. The object type will return to normal navigation and record-creation flows. ## Permanently delete an object type > **Warning:** Permanent deletion cannot be undone. Permanent deletion removes: - The object type definition - Every record belonging to the object type - Activity history and other data nested beneath those records An object type must be retired before it can be permanently deleted. To permanently delete it: 1. Open **Admin > Object types**. 2. Find the object type under **Retired object types**. 3. Select **Delete permanently**. 4. Review the number of records that will be deleted. 5. Enter the object type’s slug exactly as shown. 6. Select **Delete permanently**. The confirmation is case-sensitive and must not contain additional spaces. ## Who can manage object types? Only workspace owners and administrators with permission to manage object types can retire, restore, or permanently delete them. ## Before permanently deleting a type Consider the following first: - Confirm that its records are no longer needed. - Check whether other records or workflows refer to the object type. - Export any information that must be retained. - Retire the type temporarily if you are unsure. If you may need the data again, leave the object type retired instead of permanently deleting it.
